Cold River Band consists of Marcos Levy, Mary Barron, and their collections of instruments, which include fiddles, guitars, mandolins, piano, recorders, clarinets, and of course the spoons. In existence since 1998, CRB has built a reputation in the greater Rutland area and elsewhere around Vermont as a skilled and versatile traditional music group.
Their repertoire varies widely, including tunes and songs from the Celtic traditions (Scottish, Irish, Cape Breton, Shetland), American old-time fiddle tunes and rags, New England contradance music, folk songs both old and new, and traditional music from South America and Europe. Originally a mainly instrumental group, CRB has been singing more and more lately, including some original songs penned by Marcos.
Cold River Band has been noted for its excellent musicianship, eclectic musical selections, and the obvious pleasure with which they make music together. Mary and Marcos are also members of Extra Stout, a Rutland-area Irish pub band, and are often asked to sit in with other bands, especially the various projects of George, by George!
CRB has provided music for contra dances, weddings, parties, fundraisers, school events, memorial services, the Calvin Coolidge Homestead anniversary celebration, annual St. Benedict's Day celebrations at Weston Priory, art gallery openings, and coffeehouses. They are currently working on their long-awaited second studio CD, Shindig, which will be available at this site in October 2006. BROWSE THEIR CD AND OTHERS AT COLD RIVER RECORDS
